SCIENCE FILM FESTIVAL
From the Director of the Goethe-Institut Indonesia
Franz Xaver Augustin
Director of the Goethe-Institut Indonesia
Welcome to the 2nd Science Film Festival
One important step in bringing children and young people into early contact with scientific questions is to to show them that getting to know the secrets and treasures of our knowledge about the world need not be a laborious effort. Instead, they should see that it can be light and playful, inspiring and entertaining at the same time.
As the regional Directur of the Goethe-Institut, I'm happy to announce that this year's festival will take place in six ASEAN countries simultaneosly, making it the largest event of its kind worldwide in terms of audience.
In Indonesia, the festival started for the first time in 2010 and attracted over 12,000 visitors. This enthusiastic reception among our young visitors encouraged us to bring the festival this year to 12 further cities all over the Indonesian archipelago: Ambon, Bandung, Gowa, Jakarta, Jayapura, Mataram, Pontianak, Salatiga, Samarinda, Sorong, Surabaya and Yogyakarta.
Let me express my heartfelt thanks to the Indonesian and international partners, to our sponsors, and finally, to my colleagues at the Goethe-Institut in Indonesia and Thailand who have invested admirable endeavor in preparingf the great event.
